This year’s Knitting & Crochet Blog Week is split into 4 houses. Don your favourite hat and let it guide you to which house you will be in. Think about which house best embodies your qualities and declare your place. Post about your crafting outlook/style.
How to choose among these "houses"? My Hogwarts house choice was a piece of cake (-ahem- SOAR RAVENCLAW!!), but these are tricksier for certain. The Internet loves a questionnaire...
Are You Right or Left Brained?
What is your Game of Thrones sigil?
Band Name Generator
What Does Your Birth Date Mean For Your Love Life?
...and that was my original thought when faced with the house-choice conundrum (oh, the Myers-Briggs of it all). BUT that got complicated in my brain really fast, so instead: process of elimination! It's so simple...
All I have to do is divine from what I know of each house: am I the sort who would identify with a bee, a manatee, a monkey, or a peacock?
Now, a clever knitter would be a Manatee, because he would know that only a great fool would choose form over function. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose to be a Peacock. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it(!), so I can clearly not choose to be a Manatee on practicality alone
Because Bees have that attractive "industrious" label, as everyone knows, and Manatees and Peacocks are complete opposites, and they will cancel each other out, as my own ideas cancel each other out, so I can clearly not choose to be a Manatee or a Peacock.
(truly, I have a dizzying intellect; wait till I get going!)
Where was I?
Yes, Bees are busy, and you must have suspected I would not align myself with something so obvious, so I can clearly not choose to be a Bee. (I'm just stalling now... you'd like to think that, wouldn't you?)
Peacocks "take something good and make it brilliant," which means they probably like to modify patterns to improve them, and potentially design their own, trusting on their own ideas to be original and groundbreaking, so I can clearly not choose to be a Peacock. But, I've also made a personal choice to avoid toy knitting and home accessories, which means I instead focus on garment knitting, and in garment knitting I have learned that shawls and sweaters require focus and diligence, so I would have put amigurumi and other multi-part things as far from myself as possible, so I can clearly not choose to be a Manatee or a Bee.
It HAS worked! I've made my choice, and I choose---
What in the world can that be?
www.jointherealm.com |
tl;dr: Ah, yes, a Monkey! Because: while all my knits are practical, I'd rather learn a new skill than churn out "comfort" knitting (NOT a Manatee); I have no interest in pattern design, and my pattern mods are more about function than "embellishment" (NOT a Peacock); and I maintain project monogamy and rarely "flit" to Cast.On.All.the.Things (NOT a Bee).
HOUSE OF MONKEY: Intelligent and with a fun loving side, Monkeys like to be challenged with every project presenting them with something new and interesting. |

Love this post (and The Princess Bride)!! I'm a bee - I only wish my reasoning was as logical as yours!
ReplyDeleteI love the Princess Bridge bit - very funny!
ReplyDeleteI think I am somewhere between a bee and manatee. Is that possible? Or just weird?
Love your lively writing style in this post. Great work! Glad I have found your blog through K&C Blog Week, will definitely be back to check out the rest of this week's posts.
ReplyDeleteI am dying of laughter. Brilliant deductions, my dear. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThis was very entertaining to read.
ReplyDeleteTee hee I just splattered coffee all over the laptop screen! "Big knitting trouble" had me smiling broadly but by the time I finished reading the posting I was laughing like a loon. Cheers from another funny monkey!
ReplyDeleteFantastic post - I love the Princess Bride reference :) Cunning approach!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteThat was inconceivably hilarious. Of course you're a monkey!
ReplyDeleteLove how you referenced The Princess Bride :D
ReplyDeleteLove your approach! Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
ReplyDeleteI do love Princess Bride references. I wish my reasoning was as entertaining as yours. I, unfortunately, want to cast on all the things, design all the things, and spin everything in sight. I caught myself wondering if puppy fur would make good yarn. Then I remembered how much fiber I need to spin first...
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! I'm also a Monkey. My thought process was as long as yours, but not nearly as complex and logical. Mostly I was torn between the bee and the monkey, but in the end it was an obvious choice.
ReplyDeleteOMG LOVE the Princess Bride references! You have a really engaging writing style! It was fun to follow your line of thinking throughout the process!
ReplyDeleteFunniest post I read today! Love that scene from The Princess Bride and how ingenious of you to use it to decide your House alignment.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your very good rendering of The Princess Bride. Though, I hope that by drinking the monkey glass that you have not ingested iocane. I tend to flit to whatever catches my eye. I am definitely a bee.
ReplyDeleteYour are the first monkey I've come across! Most have been bees, like me, but it's nice to see someone from a competing house! :-)

ReplyDeleteI love how you've written this down and you're reasoning for being in house Monkey. I too choose house Monkey for much of the same reasons.
really loving your writing style. count me down as a new reader of your fantastically real blog.
ReplyDeletealso--MONKEY PRIDE.
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant :-)
ReplyDeleteDizzying intellect...indeed...Loved your post!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this post! And I read the whole thing in his voice, I'll have you know! Very well done! I wish I had the self control to be a monogamous knitter!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! You have almost convinced me I am in fact a Peacock as opposed to the Buzzing Bee that I am. You explained it so well.
